You know her, you love her, you might even buy filters from her… this month, we’re spotlighting Kim Cook! Kim is our incredible Senior OEM Account Manager and has been a vital asset at our company over the past twenty years. Her passion for genuine customer service and self-driven research makes her an outstanding salesperson and role model for our entire team. While she may be located nearly two-hundred miles from our office, Kim’s enthusiastic presence can always be felt around the delta campus.
So without further ado, let’s hear from Kim herself!
What does a typical day look like as the Senior OEM Account Manager?
My customer base is quite active; from reschedules, quoting, and checking in with them to see if they are all set with the filters they have, any questions/concerns that may arise, entering customer purchase orders. etc. I love the interaction with my customers, as I am here for them!
What led you to work at Omega Optical?
I went through a temp agency for a customer service position. I was informed by the agency that it was for three months. Two people interviewed me at Omega Optical and I was hired on the spot! After three months, I was informed that Omega wanted to make me permanent.....now close to twenty years later, here I am! I attended The High School of Commerce, Holyoke Community College (business management), and attended Dale Carnegie courses in Burlington, VT.
I had my own Hair Salon in Palmer, Ma, which consumed me seven days a week, so it was time to sell the business. I worked as a Customer Service Manager at Continental Cablevision and from there I moved to Vermont. I took a year off to enjoy Vermont!
Why did you choose to work at Omega Optical over other companies?
The president/owner employs all ages and that impressed me. Besides, I started working when Omega Optical was in a renovated church...life is good!
What is your favorite part about working at Omega Optical?
Servicing the customers, whether they are assigned to me or not, and interacting with the employees. We are all team players!
What have you learned since working at Omega Optical?
The scientific end of what our customers are working on; such as infectious diseases, DNA, and much more.
What has been your favorite project that you worked on at Omega Optical and why?
I don't know about one specific project however, every day is a work in progress!
What is one fun memory you’ve made while working at Omega Optical?
I’ve lived one hundred and seventy-nine miles away from Brattleboro, VT (location of Omega Optical) for the past eight and a half years. I come into the office two times a year and the second time is always around Christmas. It's fun to bring down homemade cookies to the whole company and the employees seem to enjoy this.
What is some advice you have for those pursuing a position in your field and/or at Omega Optical?
Take your time to learn all you can, not only about the company but to make the job your own and do the best to your ability.
What is your favorite activity to do outside of work?
Hobbies--handmade items.
Any final comments?
I truly love working at Omega Optical! You see there is "A job" or "The job" and for me, it is the" The job"!
Thank you, Kim! We don’t know what we would do without you!
